Wedding Video Clips from Wamba
Category: Other news | Date: Dec 25 2008 | By: ewasolions
Below are a few video clips from Raph’s wedding in Wamba. It was a very vibrant occasion full of colour and dance. Perfect viewing for this Christmas period!
Happy holidays to you all,
Shivani
Below is a warrior dance and song specific to Samburu ceremonies. They sing about cattle raiding, the areas they walk through and the battles they fight. See if you can spot Jeneria!
This dance shown in the clip below is another ceremonial dance where the warriors dance with girls and ladies. This is one my my favourite dances!
This dance has both men and women dancing. The warriors are in the centre with women and young girls surrounding them. It is normal for the women to have huge beaded necklaces which they move around their neck as they dance.

wedding is always a happy occasion for all cultures and food/feast is a must naturally. i remember the chinese weddings i went to as a child. it was all long and boring for me at times. but when the banquet began, i began to smile ( my stomach that is). wow. so what do they think of someone who does not eat meat? an alien from outer space? if you live in california it will be okay now. but couple decades ago, you would have been laughed at even in states like california. the best tasting food i ever ate was when i was at a buddhist held luncheon some thirty years ago!

Hi Sauwah
They definitely think I am very strange each time I say I don’t eat goat. I’ve learned not to explain about the ethical reasons but just say that it makes me sick and then its ok with them. Our camp had a huge goat over New Years!
Hope you had a wonderful New Year,
Shivani

Hey Shiv
Cool videos! would love to learn the dances when I come over. They look like fun - very challenging!
Have you done any of the dances?
Do the Samburu let outsiders join in their dances or is it just for the tribe alone?

Hi -I’ve done most of the dances and especially like the one where they move in a long train. They definitely like to have outsiders join in their dances!
